Before moving to Norfolk, UK, Chris Powell was an "intermittent de Spectacle" for 10 years ( a state subsidised musician in France ). Playing with small bands in small venues in rural SW France developed his style into one of sympathetic accompaniment intended to make the band sound bigger and replacing a rythmn instrument, influenced by Sonny Terry's approach.  Before that he busked  almost every week in France and the UK for 12 years, and even played his way up the East coast of Australia.
